Another Day, Another Blog

I've been definitely not vegan for a while now. Maybe it's dumb to use this title for the blog. I don't anticipate ever not eating meat again. I don't anticipate ever not eating cheese again. Quelle horreur! But I am leaning vegan. Just like some people lean clean or lean keto or WTF ever. I guess I named this blog Definitely Not Vegan because I'm not. I ate cheese and ice cream today, as a matter of fact. But, the truth is, lately more days than not have been vegan by happy accident.

My cholesterol numbers are not great. I have the beginnings of, or perhaps the indicators of, Fatty Liver Disease. My blood pressure happens to be controlled by a medication which I am taking to control my migraines (secondary use for this drug). I just happen to have a neat side effect of lowered blood pressure. I have arthritis in both of my hips already. I'm only 47!

The health history of my family is not great. My dad died of a heart attack suddenly almost five years ago. My mom has had two heart incidents - one of which was a heart attack but she survived both of them. She is 70 now, and leads kind of a miserable existence. I don't want to be like that. I don't want to die of a heart attack (unless, I suppose, I could go like my dad with four days of feeling crappy and then suddenly die in my sleep). I don't want cancer. I don't want to lose mobility as I age.

For all of those reasons I am trying to turn this bus around. It's difficult. I'm human. I mess things up all the time. But I'd like to be better.

Tonight I made a bunch of brown rice and sweet potatoes. I made the tahini dressing from this website. I have some kale in the refrigerator that I need to check on. I figure I can make myself some Buddha Bowls for lunches this week.

I also prepped three overnight oats jars because I only have three jars. Mental note: buy some more mason jars. Those are comprised of 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1/3 c. 5 grain rolled cereal, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 3/4 unsweetened almond milk. In the morning before I head to work I cut up a banana and put it in the jar along with a tablespoon maple syrup and two tablespoons sliced almonds. It's delicious and keeps me full until lunch. Overnight oats are my favorite.

Anyway. Enough for tonight. I've got to get some sleep.
